On January 27, 2023, at 10:49 UTC, Linode administrators received an alert for connectivity issues between one of the TOR pairs in our Frankfurt data center. During this time customers may have experienced periods of reduced network performance. Linode administrators began troubleshooting the issue immediately, and at 15:53 UTC networking administrators received an additional connectivity alert for services utilizing the affected TOR pair. Customers with services connected to the TOR pair would have experienced a total networking outage during this time.
In response, Linode invoked its incident response procedures, and at 16:32 UTC a Status Page was created. The issue was identified at 17:47 UTC, and a hardware replacement was required to resolve the issue with the affected TOR pair. Once the networking hardware was replaced we saw connectivity return, and the incident was considered resolved as of 20:00 UTC.
