Description: Flexera One – ITAM – NA & EU– Redbar Error while Viewing Inventory and Device Evidence

Timeframe: December 14th, 7:46 AM to December 15th, 5:33 PM PST

Incident Summary:

On Thursday, December 15th, at 9:38 AM PST, technical staff were notified of an issue impacting ITAM integration with Technopedia. As a result, customers may have received an error message while attempting to access the information from the General tab of an inventory device that has “Powered by Technopedia” model data displayed. This issue impacted all regions.

Technical staff found that the old Technopedia API endpoint that was made available to some customers and operated within limited availability capacity was gracefully shut down on December 14th, 2022. However, there were dependent ITAM services that still relied on it to retrieve Technopedia data.

Additional SMEs were engaged to assist with the investigation. At 4:02 PM PST, technical staff deployed a hotfix across all regions to temporarily disable the ITAM calls to the deprecated Technopedia API to stop the red bar errors.

After further discussions, the technical staff decided to bring the Technopedia API online again. At 5:09 PM PST, the Technopedia API endpoint was re-enabled to remediate the ongoing issue. At 5:26 PM PST, the hotfix was reverted.

After further health checks and monitoring, at 5:33 PM PST, technical staff confirmed that the services were online again, and customers were able to access ‘Powered by Technopedia” data successfully in ITAM.

Note: The Powered by Technopedia panel is displayed as part of the beta (program) integration of IT Asset Management inventory devices with Technopedia. We are deprecating this beta integration of IT Asset Management inventory devices with Technopedia by January 16, 2023.

Flexera One IT Visibility customers will still be able to access comprehensive normalized hardware details powered by Technopedia through Flexera One IT Visibility.

Root Cause:

Technopedia API endpoint that was made available to some customers and operated within limited availability capacity was gracefully shut down on December 14th, 2022. However, it still had dependent ITAM services that relied on it to retrieve Technopedia data.

Corrective Action:

To restore the services, the Technopedia API endpoint has been temporarily re-enabled again in the environment
The “Powered by Technopedia” panel to display additional model details will be available on ITAM inventory device properties until January 16, 2023
We are continuing to work towards our goal to enhance interoperability between staff during scheduled changes to prevent unplanned service interruptions

Incident Description: We have received reports of customers receiving an error message while attempting to access the General tab of an inventory device that has Powered by Technopedia model data displayed.

Error “An error has occurred while retrieving information, you may need to refresh the page”

Restoration activity: Technical teams have been engaged and are currently investigating.
