Wrong IP address in events
Incident Report for RevenueCat
Postmortem

We identified and resolved an issue that affected the IP address information within our event data.

Our system has built-in protections to ensure that the IP address recorded in subscriber attributes is always accurately captured. A refactor in our codebase inadvertently extended these protections to read operations, which led to an unintended override of the IP address when events were being created, generating the erroneous IP data in the events payload.

This issue was confined to the event data and did not affect the integrity of the data stored in our databases. As a result, none of the data features (Charts, SDEs, Customer Lists, Experiments etc) have been impacted.

We deeply regret any inconvenience this may have caused, maintaining the accuracy of our data is very important for us, and we will improve our system and processes to prevent these type of issues in the future.

If you need events to be re-delivered with the correct IP address, do not hesitate to reach out to support.
