Summary

Intermittently, between 10:20 AM and 12:20 PM ET, Answers queries had high latency and occasionally timed out.

Root Cause

A vendor that hosts a geocoding API for us was experiencing significant latencies.  We notified them of the issue and they were able to resolve it. 

Remediation

We are adjusting our software to make the user experience more resilient to back-end API latency and failures.
